The Initiators
Heike and Michael Nixdorf, who have been living in Majorca for
the past ten years, are the initiators of the Mallorca-Western-Festival.
Michael Nixdorf has shown a keen interest in horses from an early age.
Show jumping was his special passion. He was taken with the thrill, the
concentration and the great harmony between horses and riders while jumping
over different obstacles.
Through his wife Heike, he became interested in Quarter Horses. The
couple is very fond of this American athletic breed, which excels in
the Discipline of Reining.
It goes without saying that they could not just stick to being spectators.
Indeed, a few fine horses are romping around on the Nixdorf Finca. But
the Nixdorf are not only committed heart and soul to thoroughbreds:
neglected and grassing horses also find a loving home on their premises.
It did not take long until the idea to initiate the Mallorca-Western-Festival
was born. The Nixdorfs, who whished to show what their four-legged friends
were made of, could not have found a better place than the Plaza de
Toros in the heart of Palma de Mallorca.
Three weeks after the World Equestrian Games 2006 in Aachen and the
Americana in Augsburg the Mallorca-Western-Festival, with Reining, Cutting,
Horseshow and Live-Concerts, took place and set another highlight. After
this huge success it was clear that the Mallorca Western Festival would
take place every year.
At stake is the highest prize money ever in NRHA history (National
Reining Horse Association). Riding aficionados from all around the world
will cheer for the worlds champions of reining masters when riding the
competition of 200.000 US$. “We want Reining to become an Olympic
Discipline and with this event we will make sure that as many horseback
riders and international spectators as possible get to know that equestrian
sport better“ says Michael Nixdorf.
The amount of the prize money at the Mallorca Western Festival often
decides which horse/rider combination is leading the NRHA world ranking.
It is clear that everyone who owns a top reining horse will participate
in Mallorca.
Since the great success from 2006 it is clear that the Mallorca Western
Festival will take place every year:
